Open-Xchange Deploys Hazelcast to Minimize Disruption from Server Maintenance

Palo Alto, Calif., August 30, 2017Open-Xchange, creator of open source messaging and office productivity software for hosting, service provider and telco companies, today announced that it has deployed Hazelcast®, the leading open source in-memory data grid (IMDG) with hundreds of thousands of installed clusters and over 39 million server starts per month, to implement effective new distributed session storage capabilities for OX customers.

Previously, when an OX server was shut down for maintenance, all user sessions on the machine were lost. Users were required to login again. The new distributed session storage capabilities, powered by Hazelcast IMDG®, ensure all user sessions are backed up in a distributed fashion meaning they are no longer bound to a specific server node.

User session data remains available after a server has been shut down and can be accessed from the remaining nodes in the cluster. This load-balancing technique routes users to another server, neatly avoiding ‘session expired’ errors and maintaining a smooth user experience.

“The aim across our family of OX products is to prioritize usability and functionality whenever possible,” said Rafael Laguna, CEO of Open-Xchange. “Hazelcast’s smart load-balancing technology effectively pre-empts the disruption to users that essential maintenance can cause and is a valuable addition to our offering.”

Greg Luck, CEO of Hazelcast, said: “As the first and most pervasive open source memory store technology, we are always looking to work with like-minded organizations who build their products with open source stacks. By using Hazelcast IMDG, OX is able to increase customer satisfaction, maximize throughput, and minimize response time.”

The Hazelcast IMDG operational in-memory computing platform helps leading companies worldwide manage their data and distribute processing using in-memory storage and parallel execution for breakthrough application speed and scale. Hazelcast IMDG is easy to work with and brings a highly resilient and elastic memory resource to applications.
