A recently published July 2015 Gartner report, “Market Guide for In-Memory Data Grids”, cited that “IMDG adoption has been boosted by the availability of quality open source products. This has helped to popularize the technology and reduce the barriers to entry for midsize organizations and start-ups. Consequently, a growing number of vendors are turning to an open source technology foundation and to an “open core” business model. Gartner estimates that in 2014 the standalone IMDG market was worth approximately $459 million, having grown by about 43% from the previous year. Gartner expects the market to continue to grow at a significant double-digit rate over the next five years. We think it will reach the $1 billion mark by 2018.”

Reaffirming its operational in-memory computing platform strategy, Hazelcast has signed a partnership agreement with Concurrent, Inc., the leader in data application infrastructure and the team behind the open source Cascading platform. This partnership will extend Hazelcast’s sub-second computational speeds and ultra-efficient data grid model to the Hadoop big data world. For corporate customers, the partnership is a means of addressing their big data skills gap. With the solution, enterprises can leverage their existing Java developers and product investments to build applications that leverage data and utilise the full capabilities of Hadoop. Cascading owes its popularity to the fact that it abstracts developers from the complexities of Hadoop programming so they can write once and deploy across multiple distributions and generations of distributions.

Concurrent does the work making sure its platform stays up to date and compatible with multiple big data platforms as they evolve. Cascading has been certified to work on multiple distributions and works with the YARN resource management framework. With more than 300,000 downloads a month and more than 8,000 production deployments, Cascading is the enterprise data application, open source platform of choice and has become the de-facto standard for building data-centric applications.

Thousands of organizations now use Hazelcast technology, in sectors such as financial services, telecom, government, e-commerce, gaming, media, logistics and travel. Hazelcasts’s clients include American Express, AT&T, Commerzbank, Harris, HSBC, Level 3 Communications, New York Life, Playtech, Revenue Ireland, Target and Ticketmaster.
