Hazelcast Strengthens Relationship with Oracle
Hazelcast joins Oracle PartnerNetwork Specialized Program as Gold-level Member
Palo Alto, Calif., March 8, 2016 – Hazelcast, a leading provider of operational in-memory computing with
tens of thousands of installed clusters and over 13 million server starts per month, today announced that it
had joined the Oracle Partner Network (OPN) Specialized program as a certified Gold member, further
deepening its existing relationship with Oracle which also includes working alongside it on the evolution and
development of Java in the Java Community Process (JCP) Executive Committee (EC).
The OPN Specialized program enables Oracle customers to quickly identify qualified partners with unique
technology or expertise in specific sectors. As an OPN Specialized Gold member, Hazelcast® has been verified by
Oracle as attaining certified skills and competency achievements. Hazelcast’s relationship with Oracle is driven,
in part, by customer demand for combining in-memory computing solutions with traditional database
technologies. When in-memory computing technology is used to enable an in-memory Database Management
System (DBMS) or a queuing platform, applications benefit from significant improvements in the speed and
scalability of data access, but are not directly exposed to the distributed memory space. The application design
is mostly unaffected because developers continue to use familiar DBMS and messaging APIs.
For customers using Oracle DBMS, Hazelcast technology has been developed for resilience, integrity and scale,
with all data replicated across the distributed grid with provisions for distributed processing, high availability,
disaster recovery, backup and restore, and security at levels comparable to those of the traditional DBMS, but
more importantly delivering unique speed, scale and agility to the application. In Hazelcast In-Memory Data
Grid 3.6, Hazelcast has expanded its High-Density Memory Store (HDMS) capabilities to enable memory caches
for the largest scale-out or scale-up of application deployments. HDMS enables each node to hold very large
amounts of data, 100s of GBs per node, without incurring garbage collection overhead, as well as allowing
applications to Near Cache hundreds of GBs of data at a time.
Interestingly, in a recent report, Oracle has been cited as the most widely used database in 2015. The report
contradicts many industry studies which highlight the rapid growth of less traditional, open source databases
and the consequent rise of NoSQL vendors such as MongoDB and Cassandra. However, historically Oracle has
dominated database rankings due to pre-existing business relationships, difficulties in migrating to other
technologies, as well as technical requirements such as instrumentation, scaling and performance.
In other Oracle collaborations, Hazelcast continues its work as a member of the Java Community Process (JCP)
Executive Committee – the JCP is an open, participative process program established in 1998 to foster the
evolution of the Java platform in cooperation with the international Java developer community. The JCP has
one Executive Committee, voting members on the Executive Committee serve two-year terms; there are 16
ratified seats, eight elected seats, and a permanent seat held by Oracle America, Inc., JCP FAQs:

Greg Luck, CEO of Hazelcast, said: “Our relationship with Oracle is extremely healthy and the discussions we
have had as part of the JCP Executive Committee has strengthened that bond which has resulted in us joining
the partner network. As a company Hazelcast is driven by the mood of the community, which is why our voice
on the Executive Committee is important as it enables us to play an active role in securing long term
community access to relevant Java technologies and IP.”
