Hazelcast and C24 Technologies Launch Hypercast – A high-volume, Low-latency In-memory Computing Solution

Oslo, 9 September 2015 – Hazelcast, the leading provider of operational in-memory computing with over 8,000 company deployments, and C24, an innovator in fast data solutions, today announced the availability of a new joint solution delivering break-through performance for in-memory computing. The solution brings together Hazelcast’s leading open source in-memory data grid technology with C24’s fast data technology enabling the next generation of high-volume, low-latency, applications with microsecond data access and query speeds. The solution addresses the failings of traditional relationship database management systems (RDBMS), which are continually being overwhelmed by huge data volumes and consequently struggling to cope with the business need for increasingly actual real-time data processing.

The key to unlocking the potential of actual real-time, high-volume, low-latency data lies in the ability to ingest, store and query complex messages in-memory, but most in-memory computing solutions offer data compression and fast transmission speeds, at the expense of the ability to query the data in real-time.

Hypercast incorporates C24’s PREON Java data binding technology and Hazelcast’s open source in-memory data grid. C24 PREON adds functionality to Hazelcast’s solution by significantly reducing the memory footprint of complex data by many orders of magnitude, without compromising query performance or utilising memory for anything other than value-added operations.

C24 PREON is capable of ingesting high-volume complex data messages and compacting them to byte arrays with a “virtual getter” interface that presents binary as POJO-bound tree structures – but fits in orders of magnitude less memory per message. For example, in user testing, 7 KB messages were shown to be compacted to a mere 200 bytes. PREON data is accessible at sub-millisecond speed, and during internal benchmarks has reached microsecond speeds.

Hazelcast completes the puzzle by providing a high-speed, highly available and elastic cluster of memory servers that can be sized on-the-fly to match the changing needs of an application at web scale. Storing data in Hazelcast is as robust and flexible as storing it on disk with all the speed of keeping it in-memory.

A major financial services software provider, whose systems store and process huge volumes of financial services data, was looking to lower the cost of data by reducing its memory footprint while enabling fast, efficient query capabilities. They performed a benchmark of C24 with Hazelcast against competing technologies to see what solution would best meet their needs. In the benchmark, C24’s PREON data format stored nearly twice as much data in the same memory footprint as the competing serialization technologies. Hazelcast stored as much or more of both formats as competing memory stores. In a measure of query speed, the Hypercast solution performed orders of magnitude faster than the competing serialization technologies and memory stores.
