Hazelcast Jet Redefines High-Performance Processing for Data in Motion New Release Enables Real-time Data Processing Without Compromise to Data Security Hazelcast Comms October 18, 2018 Share Palo Alto, Calif., October 18, 2018 – In the drive to support customers’ digital business strategies, Hazelcast, the leading in-memory data management company, today announced the first enterprise edition of Hazelcast Jet 0.7 with advanced security features. Hazelcast Jet paired with Hazelcast IMDG presents a modern in-memory computing platform tailored for an IoT and microservices world that is fueling digital transformation across a broad array of industries. “By 2022, event-sourced, real-time situational awareness will be a required characteristic for 70% of new digital business solutions.” Gartner Top 10 Strategic Technology Trends for 2018: Event-Driven Model, March 2018 An early adopter of Hazelcast Jet is already experiencing the benefits of a streaming-first platform for a critical IoT use case. The user, a service provider specializing in the acquisition, persistence, secure transportation and dissemination of high frequency sensor data, has developed an advanced solution for the energy industry using Hazelcast Jet. Their solution provides comprehensive data management software for edge processing; the role of Jet within the solution is to capture, stream and publish low latency and high frequency sensor data over low bandwidth networks to multiple consumption points. In this role Hazelcast Jet acts as the processing backbone of the energy solution– monitoring sensors from remote production locations in varying formats and frequency, immediately turning this “raw events” data into insights and decisions, allowing adjustments to system settings in real time. Hazelcast Jet has a small footprint uniquely suited to the constraints that can be encountered in remote locations with limited IT access. Kelly Herrell, CEO of Hazelcast, said: “We see a powerful new dynamic emerging around data management. In today’s digital era, new systems are required that can deliver information with the time-sensitivity that meets rising business and consumer expectations. Hazelcast has already redefined high-performance processing for data at rest. Now, we are bringing that same level of performance to data in motion, enabling a new breed of ultra-high-performance applications based on streaming data that allow our customers to gain insight faster, enable actions within shorter durations, and engage new data at the speed with which it is arriving.” The latest release of Hazelcast Jet introduces its first ever enterprise features: Management Center: Hazelcast Management Center provides users with a console with various views to enable greater visibility of Hazelcast Jet clusters. The home page provides a live dashboard-style overview and for each member it displays at-a-glance statistics that are used to quickly gauge cluster status and health. In addition to monitoring the overall state of clusters, users can also analyze the data flow of the distributed pipelines. Management Center provides visual tools to inspect running jobs and detect potential bottlenecks. Crucially, developers can now observe clusters in real-time and gain far more insight into what is occurring “under the hood”. Security: Hazelcast Security Suite offers industry-leading security with end-to-end TLS encryption, mutual authentication with X509 certificates, and roles-based authorization over data structures and actions. Importantly, members of the cluster are now able to automatically authorize each other preventing attackers from impersonating system users to steal account credentials. The Security Suite provides data privacy (TLS/SSL and symmetric encryption), authentication (JAAS-based authentication, socket interceptor and TLS Mutual Authentication) and authorization (JAAS-based authorization and security interceptor) within clusters. The security suite is seamlessly integrated into Hazelcast Jet, streamlining the security of sensitive and valuable data. The 0.7 Jet release also brings improvements to the open source edition: Fully Elastic: Hazelcast Jet is able to dynamically re-scale to adapt to workload changes. When the cluster extends or shrinks, running jobs can be automatically adjusted to make use of all available resources without manual intervention. Pipeline API: In the latest release of Jet, data management is far more user friendly, extending the effectiveness of the Pipeline API. Now it is far more straightforward to integrate 3rd party libraries such as predictive analytics tools for data enrichment. New features provide increased convenience for frequent tasks and meet the needs of companies that require immediate insight into their data. New Connectors: Jet also includes a JDBC connector which allows Jet to process data from the majority of databases, a JMS connector enables users to integrate Jet Jobs into data processing pipelines using queues and topics , and Apache Avro, a data serialization format for both the Apache Hadoop (batch) and Apache Kafka (streaming) worlds. In addition, Jet now provides end users with the tools to build their own connectors, providing greater flexibility for source and sink development.
